Jakarta, February 13, 2025 - Committed to developing outstanding human resources (HR) with sustainability awareness, 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in education, has launched the Sobat Bumi Scholarship. This scholarship is available for undergraduate (S1) and vocational (D3/D4) students at 42 partner universities across Indonesia, from Sumatra to Papua.
Vice President of CSR & SMEPP Management of Pertamina, Rudi Ariffianto, stated that the Sobat Bumi Scholarship is Pertamina’s flagship program to support Asta Cita’s fourth goal, which is "strengthening human resource development, science, technology, and education."
“Scholarships foster the development of quality human resources, following Asta Cita’s fourth goal and the company’s mission to produce outstanding human resources with sustainability awareness. As the name Sobat Bumi or SoBI suggests, we encourage scholarship recipients to actively participate in environmental preservation activities, renewable energy education, and community economic empowerment. This is what sets the Sobat Bumi Scholarship apart from other educational scholarships,” said Rudi on Tuesday (11/2).
Various benefits are provided to recipients, including educational assistance, living cost assistance, and student and alumni networks from all over Indonesia. This scholarship's unique value lies in the mandatory green initiative program for recipients, namely Sobat Bumi Action (Aksi SoBI), Independent Energy Village Sobat Bumi (DEB SoBI), and Independent Energy School (SEB).
In Sobat Bumi Action (Aksi SoBI), scholarship recipients carry out three actions, including mangrove planting, land tree planting, and waste collection and processing. Last year, they successfully conducted 78 actions by planting 26,762 tree seedlings, collecting 5,850 kilograms of waste, and creating 42 processed products.
One of the processed products is eco-enzyme, developed by Sobat Bumi from Diponegoro University (UNDIP). They collected 60 kilograms of waste and sorted it into organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste (B3). The collected organic waste was processed by scholarship recipients with women from the Puwono Hamlet Waste Bank group into eco-enzyme. The eco-enzyme was distributed to the community as dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, and wound disinfectant. Scholarship recipients also distributed 50 environmentally friendly fabric bags to replace plastic when shopping.
Further, scholarship recipients also support Pertamina’s flagship program, Independent Energy Village (DEB). Together with their mentors, they are required to initiate Independent Energy Village Sobat Bumi (DEB SoBI). In this program, they install renewable energy to drive the local village economy. Last year, there were 24 Independent Energy Village Sobat Bumi (DEB SoBI) projects, including 18 Solar Power Plants (PLTS), two Biogas Systems, and four Hybrid (PLTS and Biogas) Systems.
Lastly, scholarship recipients will also be involved in the Independent Energy School (SEB) activation by conducting outreach on clean energy and eco-friendly lifestyles in schools.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that the Sobat Bumi Scholarship aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“One of the biggest challenges in the energy transition era is human resource readiness. Therefore, the Sobat Bumi Scholarship not only provides access to education but also offers capacity development, especially regarding sustainability issues aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action),” Fadjar said.
