Residents in These 131 Areas No Longer Worry About Water Shortages

March 29, 2025 – Drought disasters have become an unwelcome constant companion for the residents of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). In 2023, eight districts were hit by drought, while 14 other areas were on drought alert. Last year, 225 out of 309 sub-districts in NTT were declared on drought alert. As a result, many residents in NTT were forced to travel distances of 6 to 10 kilometers to buy clean water, priced at IDR 2,500 per 20 liters.

One of the areas prone to drought during the dry season is Tanaduen Village, Kangae, Sikka Regency, NTT.

Paulus Johnson Aritos, the Head of Tanaduen Village, stated that access to clean water during the dry season is a recurring problem often faced by the community.

“The difficulty in accessing clean water in our village happens frequently. We continue to meet the need for clean water through various means because access to clean water is a critical issue. Alongside the importance of water for health, sanitation, and basic needs in the village,” he said.

Paulus Johnson Aritos’ and the residents of Tanaduen Village’s concerns found a solution at the end of 2024, with support from the regional government and 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero) for clean water infrastructure development. It included well drilling, pump installation, a clean water storage facility with a capacity of 4,600 liters, filtration and electrical systems, and a distribution system reaching residents' homes.

The clean water infrastructure that has been built was handed over directly to the Head of Tanaduen Village as village property to be managed for the benefit of all residents. This facility is also expected to enhance the community’s economic productivity by reducing water costs and increasing time efficiency for productive activities.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), expressed Pertamina's commitment to improving communities' quality of life by ensuring the availability of clean water and sanitation and sustainable management, as outlined in Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2024, the Pertamina Group built 131 clean water sanitation facilities spread across its operational areas, including North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, and Southwest Papua.

“Pertamina not only serves the nation's energy needs but also cares for and supports community needs in health, empowerment, economy, environmental conservation, and education. One of these efforts is through the Clean Water Sanitation program, which we hope can help communities obtain proper facilities and sanitation needed for their daily lives,” concluded Fadjar.

In line with World Water Day, which falls on March 23, 2025, Pertamina remains committed to ensuring energy resilience while promoting Indonesia’s welfare through clean water sanitation programs.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
