Pekanbaru, February 7, 2025 – 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) is progressing swiftly to boost oil production in the Rokan Zone as it kicks off 2025. PHR successfully carried out the first Put On Injection (POI) for the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) steamflood project at the North Duri Development (NDD) A14 field on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
The successful steamflood method implementation is concrete national innovation in advancing oil and gas technology. This achievement motivates PHR employees to continue contributing to national energy security.
PHR recorded an outstanding performance by executing the first POI injector/pattern ahead of the original schedule planned for May 2025. With this success, PHR can accelerate the injection process for subsequent wells, aiming to complete all 15 injectors/patterns by the end of June 2025.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in oil field development in the Rokan Zone. The NDD A14 steamflood project is expected to make a substantial contribution to increasing reserves and oil production in the Rokan Block.
President Director of PHR, Ruby Mulyawan, stated, “The success of the NDD A14 project is the result of the hard work of all PHR employees, who continuously innovate to enhance production. We hope this steamflood project will positively impact our efforts to maintain national energy security.”
The steamflood project at the NDD A14 field is part of PHR’s strategy to optimize oil reservoir potential in the Rokan Block using Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology. By injecting steam into the reservoir, the viscosity of the oil decreases, making it easier to flow and be extracted.
The steamflood method has been the backbone of oil production in the Rokan Block for decades. This technology was developed by the previous operator in the mid-1980s at the Duri field. Over time, steamflood technology has played a crucial role in positively contributing to Indonesia’s oil industry.
As the technology evolves, the participation of local talent has been instrumental in its development. PHR employees have introduced various innovations to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness amid field challenges.
The NDD A14 field is the first newly developed steamflood area after the transition of Rokan Working Area (WK Rokan) management to Pertamina. The NDD A14 Stage-1 development project involves drilling 68 wells, consisting of 47 production wells, 15 steam injector wells, and 6 observation wells, with an estimated total project reserve of 6.74 million barrels of oil (MMBO).
Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, commended PHR’s efforts to optimize WK Rokan’s potential through EOR technology. The first steam injection at the NDD A14 field marks a significant step forward in boosting national production early in the year.
“This is good news for Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry. It demonstrates the commitment of both the government and the company to increasing oil production and extending the lifespan of Indonesia’s oil fields. We hope this method continues smoothly while maintaining reliable and safe operations,” he stated.
Additionally, SKK Migas has approved the Plan of Development (POD) for the Stage-1 Steamflood EOR or Steam Injection at the Rantaubais Field. PHR is ready to move forward with the Rantaubais Field development to support national energy security.
VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, emphasized that PHR’s efforts to enhance oil field production align with President Prabowo’s Asta Cita vision.
“PHR’s innovation in increasing production is clear evidence of Pertamina’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency in line with the Indonesian government’s vision,” Fadjar stated.**
