Pertamina Peduli Volunteers Assist Flood-Affected Residents in Bekasi

Bekasi, March 6, 2025 - The floods in Jabodetabek on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, disrupted residents' activities in several locations.

One affected area was Kampung Lengkak, Bekasi Jaya Urban Village, where the flood on Tuesday night nearly reached the rooftops of houses.

Pertamina Group deployed dozens of Pertamina Peduli Officer volunteers to assist through the flood relief post of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bekasi City. They provided logistical aid, including medicine, baby diapers, necessities, instant food, and daily essentials such as towels, sarongs, blankets, and toiletries. Additionally, medical personnel offered healthcare assistance to residents in need.

VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that the rapid response initiated by the corporation was greeted enthusiastically by Pertamina employees from various professions who joined as Pertamina Peduli volunteers.

“The volunteers' synergy from Pertamina Group, both Holding and Sub-Holding, facilitated aid distribution to flood victims. More than 30 Pertamina Peduli volunteers delivered over 2,700 aid items through the BPBD Bekasi post, following directives from the Ministry of SOEs and directly to affected communities,” Fadjar explained.

The Acting Secretary of BPBD Bekasi City, Wiratma, appreciated the enthusiasm and assistance from the Pertamina Peduli Officer Volunteers. On this occasion, he also expressed gratitude for Pertamina's support.

“Pertamina was very proactive. Initially, we had not thought to seek donations from anywhere since our focus was still on evacuation. We felt relieved when Pertamina contacted us and informed us they would provide aid. On behalf of the Bekasi City Government, I thank Pertamina for its concern for the people of Bekasi City. I believe this aid will help ease the burden on the affected community,” he added.

Meanwhile, medical volunteers from Pertamina Peduli, under 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Bina Medika IHC, coordinated with the Bekasi Health Office. IHC medical personnel were assigned to provide medical assistance at the refugee concentration center in the BNTB building. They also conducted door-to-door visits in Pondok Gede Permai and Villa Nusa Indah areas, extending their services into the night.

In Kampung Lengkak, Bekasi Jaya Urban Village, volunteers distributed logistical aid and instant food to residents. Since the village is on the riverbank, homes were buried under knee-deep mud after the flood. Volunteers arranged for Pertamina Fire Department trucks to help clean residents’ homes.

Meanwhile, Duren Jaya Housing Complex RW 12 residents still struggle with waist-high floodwaters. Due to the limited rubber boat availability, some elderly and sick residents were trapped in their homes. Volunteers distributed logistical aid and instant food to help those affected.

Alih Istik Wahyuni, one of the Pertamina Peduli Officer Volunteers with extensive experience in disaster relief, stated that she and her fellow volunteers were motivated by empathy.

“On behalf of my colleagues from 黑料不打烊 Pertamina International Shipping, Subholding IML Pertamina, we deeply sympathize with our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster, especially in Bekasi, Jabodetabek, and the surrounding areas. It is truly heartbreaking, and if we were in their shoes, we would also need support from others. That is what drives us to step in and provide assistance,” she said.

The head of Kampung Lengkak's neighborhood association (RT), Madan, expressed gratitude for the presence of Pertamina Peduli volunteers.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Pertamina Peduli volunteer team for taking the time to come and see our situation firsthand. I am grateful for their care and presence. They visited us wholeheartedly, and when we talked, they genuinely shared our emotions. They were not indifferent at all. In short, the Pertamina Peduli volunteers truly came to help with their hearts,” Madan concluded.
