Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia Reviews Upstream Oil and Gas Operations of PHM: Commitment to Boost National Energy Production

Kutai Kartanegara, May 1, 2025 – 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), a subsidiary of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), received a Working Visit from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia, Bahlil Lahadalia, at the Senipah Peciko South Mahakam (SPS) field located in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

This working visit aimed to review the infrastructure and upstream oil and gas activities in East Kalimantan Province, ensure the sustainability of national energy production, and reaffirm the government's commitment to sustainably increasing national oil and gas output.

During the visit, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources was accompanied by the Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, and President Director of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri. Upon arrival at the SPS Field, the delegation was welcomed by President Director of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Chalid Said Salim, President Director of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Sunaryanto, General Manager of PHM, Setyo Sapto Edi, along with other management representatives.

The delegation also reviewed the main production facilities at the SPS Field and received presentations on operational performance, technological innovations, and efficiency efforts carried out by PHM to maintain sustainable oil and gas production from the Mahakam Working Area, as well as safety culture (HSSE) development as a core pillar of operations.

In his speech, Chalid Said Salim, appreciated the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for his SPS Field visit.

“This visit is not only an honor for us but also a tangible form of the government’s support and attention to our work in the upstream oil and gas sector. This support serves as driving energy for us to continue prioritizing excellent and sustainable performance,” said Chalid.

Meanwhile, in his performance presentation, the General Manager of PHM, Setyo Sapto Edi, emphasized that PHM prioritizes innovation, technology application, digitalization, and work safety principles as part of a long-term strategy to sustainably increase production, in line with national oil and gas production targets by the government.

“At PHM, we are committed to carrying out upstream oil and gas operations that are safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient, managed through innovation and the latest technology adoption. The SPS field is one example of how mature fields can be managed optimally while maintaining productivity and considering environmental sustainability,” Setyo explained.

Setyo added that PHM’s year-to-date production as of March 2025 reached 439 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas and 25.1 Thousand Barrels of Oil Per Day (MBOPD). In terms of drilling, PHM has successfully drilled 20 development wells. This success is supported by PHM's strategies in field optimization, cutting-edge technology utilization, and operational efficiencies that enable stable production despite global oil and gas industry challenges.

Beyond production achievements, PHM also reaffirmed its commitment to work safety. As of March 29, 2025, PHM recorded 571 days or 44,294,278 working hours without accidents.

“This achievement is the result of a strong safety culture implemented across all PHM operational lines, including intensive training programs and increased adherence to safety standards,” he added.

Setyo also conveyed that all the positive achievements by PHM and its subsidiaries were made possible by the central and local government’s support, close collaboration with all stakeholders, and the dedication of its workers, which are key to achieving national production targets.

“These successes are the result of hard work and collaboration across all company elements as well as support from various stakeholders. We will continue to strive to improve operational performance while prioritizing safety and sustainability. Therefore, we can make an optimal contribution to realizing national energy security,” he said.

Responding to Setyo’s speech, Minister Bahlil expressed appreciation for the dedication and innovation shown by PHI through PHM in maintaining oil and gas production levels amid complex operational challenges, especially in mature oil and gas fields.

“I hope PHM will continue to focus on increasing oil lifting to support national energy security, with full support from all players in the oil and gas industry. The government is committed to continuously fostering a conducive investment climate and supporting efforts in new oil and gas field exploration and development,” said Bahlil.

Bahlil also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the upstream oil and gas industry to achieve national production targets and reiterated that the government will continue to create an investment climate that supports the acceleration of exploration and production activities.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), expressed Pertamina’s commitment to increasing gas production to support the national gas production target of 12 billion cubic feet per day (BCFD) by 2030.

“The commitment to increasing oil and gas production is demonstrated by the allocation of 60% of Pertamina’s Capex to the upstream sector through 2029,” Fadjar concluded.
