Jakarta, April 28, 2025 – The spirit of loving the earth and local culture has been realized tangibly by Dara Baro, one of the female MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) fostered by Pertamina, which operates sustainably. Ahead of the 2025 Eid, Dara Baro’s clothing collection, made from remnants of Indonesian traditional fabrics such as jumputan, tenun, and batik, was sold out at major outlets in Jakarta.
This collection is not merely a trend but also a commitment to environmental conservation. By adopting the Boro technique from Japan, sewing and patching used fabrics into new clothing, Dara Baro has successfully transformed textile waste into high-value products rich with stories and beauty.
Dimita Agustin, founder of Dara Baro, revealed that her brand’s spirit is to convey the importance of caring for the earth through her creations. In line with Earth Day, April 22, 2025, Dara Baro is even more determined to protect nature through sustainable fashion.
“We believe that every piece of fabric has a story. Through the Boro technique, we want to show that remnants do not mean waste. We also want to invite the younger generation to see that the creative industry can have a real social and environmental impact,” said Dimita.
The Dara Baro’s quality and originality have also attracted international attention. Recently, the brand received a curation invitation from L'adresse Paris, one of the prestigious fashion platforms in France known for its stringent selection of brands.
Dara Baro has also become one of the fashion MSMEs selected to participate in the Osaka Expo, Japan. This MSME was chosen due to its focus on producing fashion items from patchwork waste and its orientation toward sustainability.
More than just a business, Dara Baro also opens educational and empowerment opportunities. They actively involve fashion school interns to learn how to turn fabric waste into high-value fashion creations. This step serves as a real inspiration that sustainability and empowerment can go hand in hand.
Their consistency in promoting upcycled fashion concepts has not only been well-received by the market but also appreciated by the government. Last year, Dara Baro received the Best Eco-Friendly Product award from the Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, recognizing it as a business that successfully applied eco-friendly principles in its production line.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), also expressed appreciation for Dara Baro’s achievements.
“Pertamina is proud to be part of Dara Baro’s journey. It is tangible proof that Indonesian female MSMEs have great potential to compete globally while upholding sustainability principles. We remain committed to supporting our fostered MSMEs so that they not only grow but positively impact the environment and society,” he said.
Pertamina’s support for MSMEs aligns with national policy directions, particularly the third point of Asta Cita from the Prabowo-Gibran administration, which emphasizes quality jobs creation, the promotion of entrepreneurship, creative industry development, and infrastructure development continuation to support the people's economy.
Pertamina’s coaching program through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program has proven to have a real impact in encouraging MSMEs to move up a class. Dara Baro shows how collaboration, creativity, and an environmental focus can pave the way for MSMEs to enter the global market.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
