鈥淓LOC BESTARI: Sustainable Forests, Prosperous Communities鈥 鈥 A Social Innovation Bringing PGE Ulubelu Area Its PROPER Gold Award

Ulubelu, March 1, 2025 – 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) has secured its 14th consecutive PROPER Gold award for two operational areas. The PROPER Gold award was achieved by the Kamojang Area for the 14th and the Ulubelu Area for the 3rd time. This achievement aligns with PGE’s vision of becoming a world-class green energy company and its mission to create value by maximizing the management of geothermal potential and its derivative products while actively participating in national and global decarbonization efforts.

PGE’s commitment is also reflected in its support for community welfare and environmental conservation in the company’s operational areas.

Kitty Andhora, Corporate Secretary of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, stated that one of PGE’s contributions is establishing a green ecosystem involving all elements of society.

“PGE has a growth acceleration target that requires community acceptance. Developing geothermal energy is a path toward a greener future by transitioning from fossil energy. In addition to contributing to improving the community’s living standards, we hope that the geothermal business process and development in PGE’s operational areas will gain stronger support from the public,” said Kitty Andhora.

With an installed capacity of 220 MW supplying about 25% of Lampung Province's electricity needs, the Ulubelu Area secured the PROPER Gold award through various flagship programs. The ELOC BESTARI (Empowering Local Communities-based Environmental Stewardship Through Social Forestry) program, implemented in the Ulubelu operational area, focuses on diversifying community income sources to support sustainable forest management through direct-use geothermal applications.

ELOC BESTARI is a forest rehabilitation effort involving local communities in the sustainable management of social forestry.

This program encouraged the community to reduce its economic dependence on environmentally harmful activities such as illegal logging. Economic improvements are driven by the cultivation of forest resources such as coffee, honey, and organic fertilizers.

General Manager of PGE Ulubelu, Hadi Suranto, explained that PGE’s operational area in Ulubelu is adjacent to residential land and forests. With a total pipeline network of nearly 45 km, eight villages are located near PGE’s production facilities.

“CSR programs are a top priority in supporting the company’s operations by involving the local community.

Our flagship programs have won various awards, including the IGA Award 2024-2025, ISRA Award 2024, BISRA Award 2024, TANGGAMUS Award, and the third PROPER Gold award. The Ulubelu Area has numerous key CSR programs focused on environmental sustainability, community empowerment, health, education, and disaster response,” said Hadi.

The majority of the community around the Ulubelu Area consists of coffee farmers with land managed under social forestry programs. Through initiatives like KUPS Margo Rukun Bestari, 778 forest farmers have obtained management permits from the Ministry of Forestry. KUPS Margo Rukun Bestari is one of the assisted partners receiving PGE Ulubelu Area’s support.

Besides KUPS Margo Rukun Bestari, the ELOC BESTARI program is also implemented through various activities such as Ulubelu Triumphant, which promotes modern agriculture with melon cultivation Kuberseri, a program providing training and facilities for managing collective businesses, and ERMi, which enhances skills in water conservation and disaster mitigation management.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), added that the Pertamina Group continues to improve environmental performance and community empowerment programs to promote economic welfare and independence.

"Pertamina drives innovation by prioritizing eco-innovation and social innovation to enhance community well-being. It is also in line with the Asta Cita vision of the Indonesian Government," explained Fadjar.

The ELOC BESTARI program in the Ulubelu Area has provided direct benefits to 1,362 beneficiaries, consisting of 112 forest laborers, 787 temporarily unemployed coffee farmers, 81 unemployed youth, 348 elderly individuals, 23 women in vulnerable groups, and 11 underprivileged families. In line with the Asta Cita Government’s efforts to develop energy and economic independence, PGE ensures that every initiative taken not only benefits the environment but also contributes to improving the community’s life quality through economic empowerment and capacity building.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.
