Merauke, February 18, 2025—The BUMN Bakti Volunteer program has returned for its seventh batch. This initiative, involving 150 SOE workers, is being carried out simultaneously in ten locations across Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke. This time, Pertamina had the opportunity to manage the BUMN Bakti Volunteer activities at Indonesia's easternmost location, Lampu Satu Beach Tourist Site in Samkai, Merauke District, South Papua.
Together with 15 volunteers from various SOE companies, Pertamina conducted waste cleanup activities, provided waste management education, and built trash bins. This environmental initiative also involved Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the local community around Lampu Satu Beach, Merauke.
The activities included educating MSMEs about waste management, tree planting, installing environmental awareness signs with messages discouraging littering, and building permanent trash bins at 20 locations. The event concluded with a beach cleanup, collecting 350 kg of waste, equivalent to reducing 420 kg of COâ‚‚ emissions.
Marini Novita Pomeo, a resident of Lampu Satu Beach, appreciated the beach cleanup efforts. "Due to the lack of trash bins here, visitors often throw their waste carelessly. Thankfully, today, the BUMN Bakti Volunteers provided trash bins and reminded us not to litter. I hope this environmental initiative helps keep our beach clean," said Marini.
VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina employees participating in the BUMN Bakti Volunteer program were selected rigorously and are committed to benefiting the community.
"Pertamina employees from the holding and sub-holding companies who joined this program have passed a strict selection process by the Ministry of SOE. They are also committed to dedicating their time and effort to this volunteer initiative. From February 17-19, 2025, in Merauke District, they contributed to activities in education, environmental conservation, economic empowerment, and healthcare," Fadjar explained.
In the education sector, volunteers provided lessons at nature and elementary schools. The environmental efforts included waste management education, tree planting, and beach cleanups.
Rahmat Basuki, a volunteer from the Refining & Petrochemical Sub-holding, shared his experience. "I am no stranger to volunteering activities. It feels great to contribute to the Merauke community despite my busy schedule. Papua is also part of Pertamina’s operational area, which includes exploration, production, refining, and marketing operations," he explained.
In the economic sector, volunteers provided mentoring for MSME and hydroponic farming training for the Women's Farming Group. Meanwhile, in the healthcare sector, volunteers conducted education on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), distributed food packages and nutritious meals, and provided health check-ups for toddlers and the elderly.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement.
