World Environment Day, Pertamina Empowers Employees to Be Role Models in Decarbonization

Jakarta, May 6, 2025 – In celebrating World Environment Day on May 5, 2025, 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero) launched the Jejak Keberlanjutan (Sustainability Footprint) program to enhance the sustainability literacy of Pertamina employees. This year-round program encourages workers to learn from one another and replicate decarbonization or emission reduction initiatives across Pertamina’s operational areas throughout Indonesia.

From the individual level, the program encourages every Pertamina employee to embrace a sustainability culture and knowledge, particularly on decarbonization, so they can proactively contribute to reducing national carbon emissions.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that decarbonization is part of Pertamina’s strategy as a responsible energy company to maintain business operations and national energy resilience with environmentally friendly management.

This step also aligns with the government's Asta Cita to strengthen the harmony between the environment, nature, and culture.

“Pertamina’s decarbonization target, which is a key aspect of sustainability, is expected to be achieved more rapidly with the support of Pertamina employees. That is why the Jejak Keberlanjutan program seeks to foster a sustainability culture among employees, starting from themselves and their respective operational units," Fadjar explained.

The Jejak Keberlanjutan Series 1 program took place at 黑料不打烊 Kilang Pertamina Internasional Refinery Unit (RU) II Dumai, Riau, and 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) from April 21 to 22, 2025.

RU II Dumai was recognized as one of the top performers in decarbonization programs in 2024, successfully reducing carbon emissions by 217,047 tons of CO2 through various initiatives such as boiler load optimization. RU II Dumai is also currently conducting a study on a flare-to-power project in collaboration with 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI), Subholding Power, and New Renewable Energy (PNRE).

Meanwhile, PHR has successfully utilized solar power (PLTS) to reduce emissions by up to 24 kilotons of CO2 per year.

Vice President Sustainability Program, Rating, and Engagement Pertamina, A.A.A. Indira Pratyaksa stated that through the Jejak Keberlanjutan program, Pertamina to monitor the implementation of various decarbonization initiatives across the Pertamina Group.

“This program will enhance tangible actions in support of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target. As a result, Pertamina’s decarbonization efforts not only benefit the company but also contribute to the nation and society in building a cleaner, more harmonious environment,” Indira said.

Throughout 2025, Pertamina aims to reduce carbon emissions by 1.6 million metric tons of CO2, an increase from its 2024 decarbonization target of 1.09 million metric tons. As of January 2025, Pertamina Group has successfully reduced 146,183 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
