4 Easy Tips to Identify Genuine and Counterfeit Pertamina Oil

Jakarta, February 20, 2025 - 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Lubricants (黑料不打烊PL), a subsidiary of 黑料不打烊 Pertamina Patra Niaga under Pertamina's Commercial & Trading Subholding, reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality oil products that meet international standards. However, the widespread circulation of counterfeit oil in the market poses a serious challenge that must be addressed to protect consumers and maintain the industry's reputation.

President Director of Pertamina Lubricants, Werry Prayogi, stated, "We have a great responsibility to ensure that consumers receive authentic and high-quality oil products. The rise in counterfeit oil cases not only harms consumers but also negatively impacts the country and the industry. We fully support law enforcement efforts in handling these cases and remain committed to taking firm action against counterfeiters."

Werry explained that to guarantee quality assurance and consumer protection, Pertamina’s oil products are certified by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for both automotive and industrial segments.

According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Lubricants Association (Aspelindo), Sigit Pranowo, oil counterfeiting is a crime that harms multiple parties, including consumers, manufacturers, and the country. "We support Pertamina Lubricants and other brands in educating the public and working alongside law enforcement to take strict action against counterfeiters," he said.

VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, encouraged the public to take part in reporting counterfeit oil products.

"In addition to educating consumers about genuine Pertamina oil, we urge the public to participate in reporting counterfeit products. Reports can be submitted through Pertamina’s contact center at 135," Fadja said.

The Impact of Using Counterfeit Lubricants

Counterfeit oil can significantly affect engine performance, as improper lubrication disrupts engine operation. It leads to increased friction between components and accelerates engine wear. Over time, engine performance will decline, potentially resulting in severe damage. Consequently, consumers may face higher maintenance costs due to the need for frequent part replacements.

Nurudin, Quality Manager of Pertamina Lubricants, warned, "In some cases, such as diesel oil without detergent or dispersant additives, engine damage can occur immediately. The same applies to industrial lubricants that need specific specifications, like compressor lubricants— counterfeit products can instantly damage the lubrication system."

How to Differentiate Genuine and Counterfeit Pertamina Oil

Pertamina Lubricants provides practical guidelines for consumers to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit oil (https://lubes.id/):

  1. QR Code on the Anti-Counterfeiting Label (Physical & Digital): The QR code on the bottle sticker contains a unique 9-10 character code (random numbers & letters). Each bottle has a different QR code—if two bottles have identical codes, those are fake. When scanned, the QR code directs to the LUBES ID website, displaying product details, QR number, batch code, scan count, and scan location. Consumers should verify the accuracy of this data.
  2. Bottle Cap with Hologram: The cap features a fine original hologram with dot-patterned characters visible when tilted at a 45-degree angle.
  3. Batch Number on Cap and Bottle Neck: The 8-digit batch number is aligned straight, upright, and parallel.
  4. Triple-Layer Bottle Technology: When opened, the inner part of the bottle has a different color than the outer layer.

Pertamina Lubricants urges consumers to purchase oil from trusted sources such as Pertamina gas stations (SPBU), Fastron Auto Service workshops, Enduro Motor Service, and other authorized and reputable workshops. Additionally, all Pertamina oil products are formulated using reliable human resources, technology, production facilities, and R&D. These products have received international recognition from lubricant testing bodies such as API, ACEA, and JASO, as well as from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina’s business lines and operations.**
